When I visit I site I rarely do any research about anyone buried there beyond how many stones are there and the coordinates for directions. I let the site and stones decide which ones I document. Interesting look, extremely old, or just a feeling of being drawn to it.
My normal visit starts with a walk around the site. No phone, no distractions. I try to be in the moment and observe. This is when these 5 stones are chosen for my daily posts. I revisit each one with my camera, notepad and a few moments to write down some thoughts. After it is all said and done sitting back at home I look up each of the people that I was drawn to. Here are the stories from this week:
Charles Edward Wade was born on September 23, 1814 in Bedford County, Tennessee. He married Elizabeth Ann Lafferty on January 1, 1835 in Decatur County, Tennessee. They had eleven children together. He was a farmer and lived in Civil District 1, Decatur County, Tennessee in 1850. He died in 1882 in Decatur County, Tennessee at the age of 67 or 68. He is buried in Lafferty Cemetery in Bath Springs, Tennessee.
Nancy Ann Tuten Wade was born in December 1836 in Tennessee. She married Charles Edward Wade on January 1, 1835 in Decatur County, Tennessee. They had eleven children together. She lived in Civil District 1, Decatur County, Tennessee in 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900. She died in 1920 in Decatur County, Tennessee at the age of 83 or 84. She is buried in Lafferty Cemetery in Bath Springs, Tennessee.
Leonard L Barber was born in 1918. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a private first class and a member of the 157th Depot Brigade and the 743rd Tank Battalion, Company D. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He died in 1965 at the age of 47. He is buried in Lafferty Cemetery in Bath Springs, Tennessee.
John Thomas Barber, Sr. was born on February 21, 1854 in Tennessee. He married Mary Elizabeth Lafferty on December 24, 1874 in Decatur County, Tennessee. They had nine children together. He was a farmer and lived in Civil District 1, Decatur County, Tennessee in 1880. He died on July 8, 1922 in Bath Springs, Tennessee at the age of 68. He is buried in Lafferty Cemetery in Bath Springs, Tennessee.
George Washington Tucker was born on July 7, 1801 in North Carolina. He married Harriet Harrison McCourry in 1823 in Yancey County, North Carolina. They had at least 11 children together. He was a farmer and lived in Washington County, Tennessee in 1850 and in Decatur County, Tennessee in 1860 and 1870. He died on December 15, 1895 in Decatur County, Tennessee at the age of 94. He is buried in Lafferty Cemetery in Bath Springs, Tennessee.
Inez Brasher was born and died in 1920. She was the daughter of Martin V. Brasher and Malinda Orr Brasher. She passed at just one month old.
