Good morning humans & May 10th
Today is the 130th day of the year, only 235 left in 2023
May 10th wiki nugs are a coming-
28 BC – A sunspot is observed by astronomers during the reign of the Han Dynasty,
one of the earliest dated sunspot observations in China.
1773 – The Parliament of Great Britain passes the Tea Act, designed to save the British
East India Company by reducing taxes on its tea and granting it the right to sell tea directly to North America.
The legislation leads to the Boston Tea Party.
Pip’s notes- I like my coffee dark, and my tea in the harbor… or something.
1837 – Panic of 1837: New York City banks suspend the payment of specie,
triggering a national banking crisis and an economic depression whose severity
was not surpassed until the Great Depression.
Pip’s notes- Planning on going back to read about this one, not a clue on this one.
1869 – The First transcontinental railroad, linking the east & west US is completed
at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory with the golden spike.
1962 – Marvel Comics publishes the first issue of The Incredible Hulk.
1967 – The Northrop M2-F2 crashes on landing, becoming the inspiration for the
novel Cyborg and TV series The Six Million Dollar Man.
1975 – Sony introduces the Betamax videocassette recorder.
Pip’s notes- I don’t even think I’ve seen a Betamax player or tape.
1994 – Nelson Mandela is inaugurated as South Africa’s first black president.
2002 – FBI agent Robert Hanssen is sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility
of parole for selling United States secrets to Russia for $1.4 million in cash and diamonds.
Pip’s notes- (looks at wiki profile pic) that dude is gonna get passed around prison for
a half a pack of smokes.
2013 – One World Trade Center becomes the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.
Happy Birthdays –
1838 – John Wilkes Booth, American actor, assassin of Abraham Lincoln
1949 – Miuccia Prada, Italian fashion designer
As of June 2021, Bloomberg estimated her net worth to be $6.62 billion
Pip’s notes- dude, it’s gotta be all drug money. $6 Billion? on clothes & shit?
1960 – Bono, Irish singer-songwriter, musician and activist
Pip’s notes- May the 4th be with you…. and also U2
1978 – Kenan Thompson, American actor and comedian
Pip’s notes- Mighty Ducks & Good Burger. I’ve laughed a bit from this dude.
Pip’s random wiki nugs. Cheers and GSD
Passings –
2012 – Carroll Shelby, American race car driver and designer
Pip’s notes- Having worked for a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealership for most of my life,
Shelby’s work has effected me in ripple effects.
I’ve “Pre-delivery inspected” Vipers.
I’ve “used car inspected” cars with his autograph on the dash.
I still haven’t seen that Ford vs Ferrari movie from a few years ago..
.. It’s still on the list to watch.
Holidays –
North & South Carolina are observing Confederate Memorial Day
Utah is all about the Golden Spike Day.
FYI the last railroad spike used was 17.6 karats gold.
Cheers humans and don’t let the Wednesday camel get ya down
