In LOTS Project Morning Show Ep 840, Brian shares farmhouse table build progress, a site prep update, a road trip for supplies, and new woodworking projects.

Farmhouse Table Build Progress, Site Prep, and Small Wood Projects | Ep 840

Welcome to episode 840 of The LOTS Project Morning Show! This Memorial Day Monday, I’m sipping on a light roast Ethiopian Yirgacheffe from Food Forest Farms—one of my all-time favorites. If you haven’t tried their coffee, it’s time. Use code LOTS10 for 10% off and enjoy free shipping. This week’s show was a packed one. We covered the latest progress on our cabin build site, shared a supply-run road trip story, talked about our farmhouse table build and expanding woodworking hustle under K&B Kustom Built, and of course—ranted about the never-ending rain.

Site Prep Is Back On Track

After weeks of weather delays, equipment issues, and a washed-out driveway, we finally got some serious traction on the cabin site. The guy helping us with the driveway managed to get his equipment up and running again. Not only did he repair the damaged portion of the driveway, but he also regraded the road and laser-leveled the build site—going 5 to 6 feet beyond our planned cabin perimeter.

I headed out to the property to check it out and was genuinely impressed. It felt like a huge step forward. We’re probably about a month out from the crew coming to install the post and roof structure—weather permitting. Hopefully, we’ll beat the summer heat to get the structure up and start shaping our little slice of freedom.

Road Trip for Wood (and Maybe Some Accidental Discounts)

Kori was off all week, so we took a road trip to Muscle Shoals to pick up untreated 4x4s for our next table build. Local stores didn’t have what we needed, but an inventory check showed some availability about an hour and a half away.

The drive was great—aside from a 30-mile stretch that smelled like sewage and sulfur (still not sure if it was the area or a rogue septic truck). When we finally got to Lowe’s, let’s just say the cashier had a rough day and may have only charged us for 5 beams instead of 12. I told her we had 12. She rang it up. I paid. Morally gray area? Maybe. But we didn’t hide anything.

Table Projects & Side Hustle Expansion

We finished our first farmhouse table and benches—which turned into our own personal set due to minor imperfections. We used it as a learning experience to evaluate tools, materials, and time investment. The build helped us refine our process and now we’re gearing up to build more with the right wood and better equipment.

We’re now officially branding under K&B Kustom Built (with a K). We launched a Facebook page and started building inventory with smaller, shippable wood projects:

  • Gravity wine holders in espresso and chestnut finishes
  • Tealight candle holders using scrap wood
  • A kid-sized picnic table in progress
  • And more items planned like cutting boards, planters, and coaster sets

These small projects are easier to ship and open up opportunities to reach customers beyond our local area. The goal is to scale slowly, reinvest in tools, and see how far we can take this thing.

Rain, Rain, Go Away (Seriously)

Weather has been wild. Sudden downpours out of nowhere, weird sunny rain showers, and strong winds have been making it tough to work outside with power tools and no shelter. We’re keeping an eye on the radar, working fast, and putting everything away when the sky turns.

One storm dropped buckets on us out of nowhere while I was out and Kori was finishing up wine holders. Tents collapsed, water poured through open camper windows—it was chaos. It’s a delicate dance right now between productivity and weather roulette.
