In Episode 849 of The LOTS Project Morning Show, I had a lot to share—from launching a brand new podcast to the arrival of an unexpected feline and major developments in the food forest. It’s been a wild week packed with progress, surprises, and the occasional logistical headache.

New Podcast Launch: Bitcoin 30 Seconds

After months of planning and production, I officially launched a new daily podcast called Bitcoin 30 Seconds—a beginner-friendly series that breaks down Bitcoin terms and concepts in under 30 seconds per episode. It’s designed for people who are just starting their Bitcoin journey and want bite-sized, jargon-free explanations.

You can find all episodes and resources at Bitcoin30Seconds.com or on your favorite podcast app. New episodes drop daily throughout August. I’m also publishing video versions on my main social channels.

Bonus: The website includes a link to my Bitcoin Preparedness & Recovery Kit for inheritance planning, plus beginner resources and a free Bitcoin help call.

Meet Dolly, Our New (Feral?) Family Member

The “cat distribution system” struck again. Over the weekend, a tiny 8-week-old kitten showed up outside our camper and didn’t want to leave. Kori fed it once (with tuna, of course), and now we’ve got ourselves an outdoor cat named Dolly.

Despite the chaos with our dogs and the kitten’s cries, we decided to build her a little cat condo out of scrap wood. I’ll be modifying it soon with a second escape door for safety. She seems to like it so far—and Kori’s already brainstorming other names, because… that’s what she does.

Food Forest Update: Passionflowers, Beautyberry & More

After a welcome break in the heat, I took some time to walk the property and observe what’s thriving in the food forest. Some key highlights:

  • American Beautyberry is exploding throughout the forest, especially in areas where we disturbed the soil and opened the canopy. I’m planning to propagate it and sell it in custom planters as a bug-repellent ornamental.
  • Purple Passionflower Vines (aka maypops) are producing fruit all over the property and at the cabin site. They attract pollinators and look amazing. Like the beautyberry, I plan to sell propagated vines in planters with trellises.
  • Mullein is popping up from last year’s seed broadcast. I’ll let it go to seed again and may begin harvesting for herbal uses.
  • Pokeweed, although toxic, is abundant and could be fun to experiment with for dye making (but not for eating).
  • Sumac has also appeared—something I need to research more, but potentially valuable for herbal and foraging applications.

Comfrey & Fruit Tree Growth

The fruit trees we planted last fall are growing strong, though Japanese beetles took a toll on the leaves. We deployed traps that worked better than expected. Most trees survived with minimal damage, and the fig trees, in particular, are thriving—especially those paired with comfrey plants. Some of the comfrey is already big enough to chop and drop for mulch, so that’s coming soon.

Cabin Build & Logistics: Ladders and Lumber

Progress on the cabin build slowed this week as I work out delivery logistics for the next round of materials: 2x12s, subfloor, and framing lumber. The supplier doesn’t have a way to unload, so I’m trying to coordinate with local equipment owners or consider making several trips myself.

Meanwhile, we scored a 24′ extension ladder off Facebook Marketplace for $50. It’s not OSHA-perfect, but it’ll do for reaching the cabin roofline—and at that price, it was a steal.

Gear Reviews & Upcoming Tools

A few Amazon vendors have reached out with items to test, including:

  • A combo digital laser/tape measure
  • A digital angle finder (great for solar projects)
  • A tool bag to help organize my scattered gear

Watch for those reviews soon on my Amazon storefront and the blog.
