This week’s conversation covered everything from interstellar mysteries to state politics, Bitcoin security, and a long-awaited break in the Tennessee summer heat.
Aliens Inbound? The 3I/ATLAS Mystery
Headlines have been buzzing with talk of an inbound “alien mothership” spotted by the ATLAS telescope in Chile. Officially named 3I Atlas, this interstellar object was first observed on July 1, 2025, and is only the third confirmed interstellar visitor detected in our solar system.
What makes it fascinating:
- Estimated size: 12 miles across (20 km).
- Speed: 130,000–152,000 mph (~37 miles per second).
- Trajectory: unusual, passing near Venus, Mars, and Jupiter.
- Glow: unlike comets with tails, this object shines from the front like a headlight.
Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb suggested it might be an alien probe or mothership. NASA and others insist it’s a natural comet. Regardless, it’s expected to reach closest approach in late October–December 2025—perfect timing for a spooky Halloween season.
Whether rock or ship, it’s a reminder of how little we know about space.
New York Goes All-Electric
Next up: The All-Electric Buildings Act, a law passed in New York that mandates zero-emission heating and appliances in all new construction.
- Starting Jan 1, 2026: All new buildings under seven stories (including single-family homes) must use all-electric systems.
- By 2029: The law expands to larger buildings and commercial structures.
- Exemptions: Restaurants, hospitals, laboratories, laundromats, and crematoria.
Supporters claim it will lower emissions, improve health, and create 100,000 green jobs. Critics worry about grid strain, higher construction costs, and lack of energy choice—especially in a state known for brutal winters and aging infrastructure.
As Brian put it: “What happens when the power goes out in January?”

Weather Cooldown in Tennessee
After a hot and humid summer, Tennessee is finally seeing relief. Forecasts show highs in the low 80s with overnight lows in the 50s—ideal weather for cabin projects, solar installs, and long days outside without overheating.
Locals say this summer was hotter and longer than usual. A cooler stretch will help push forward work at Delinquents Gully, including prepping solar panels and clearing ground for new builds.
