Coffee of the Day
I kicked things off with a fresh cup of Light Costa Rican from Food Forest Farms. Roasted by real human hands using a clean stream air roaster, their coffee is always smooth and flavorful. Use code LOTS10 at checkout for 10% off + free shipping.
Bitcoin JS Wallet Scare: Why It Mattered
Last week, reports surfaced of a malicious JavaScript/npm package attack that impacted certain Bitcoin wallets. The exploit worked by swapping out the intended Bitcoin address for a look-alike malicious address, tricking users during the copy/paste and send process.
While many wallets patched quickly and the fallout was minimal, it’s a stark reminder:
- Always verify the entire address, not just the first and last few characters.
- Keep your wallets updated to avoid vulnerabilities.
- Use hardware wallets like the Blockstream Jade or Jade Plus. These devices let you verify the receiving address directly on the hardware screen, ensuring you send your sats to the right place.
👉 Affiliate Note: Blockstream Jade and Jade Plus hardware wallets were not affected by this breach, since they don’t use JavaScript. Protect your Bitcoin: Grab one here.

Reflections on 9/11, 24 Years Later
This year marked the 24th anniversary of 9/11. Many younger people weren’t alive—or were too young to remember—the events as they unfolded. That raises an important question: how does cultural memory shift as generations change?
I shared my own story of hearing about the attacks while working in New York state, initially mistaking the news for a prank until the reality set in. It’s a reminder of how deeply personal this event was for those who experienced it live, and how the observance of 9/11 has changed over time.
Next year will be the 25th anniversary—a milestone that may bring renewed memorials and national reflection.
Charlie Kirk: Tragedy, Media Reactions & Free Speech
The assassination of Charlie Kirk shook headlines just one day before 9/11. Whether you followed his career or not, the public reaction was explosive. Some mourned deeply, others celebrated online, and social media amplified the division.
Key takeaways from this discussion:
- Outrage cycles are fueled by algorithms designed to amplify conflict.
- Celebrating death, regardless of political stance, is troubling—and reveals how polarized discourse has become.
- Kirk’s style of engaging in conversations, even with those who disagreed with him, highlighted what’s missing in today’s public square: real dialogue.

Cabin Build Progress: Beams, Hangers & Next Steps
On a brighter note, this past week brought major progress at the cabin build site. With Kori’s help during her vacation days, we:
- Installed 2-ply 2×12 girders into post hangers.
- Laminated boards with adhesive and screws for added strength.
- Prepared the site for the 35-foot center beam that will support floor joists.
The plan moving forward:
- Cut and set posts on piers, trim to height, and install the center beam.
- Hang joists and lay subfloor by the end of September.
- Frame out for siding, doors, and windows before winter weather sets in.
Momentum is finally picking up, and the cabin is taking shape!
Gear Spotlight: Zoofly Men’s Hiking Pants
I’ve also been testing out the Zoofly Men’s Hiking Pants from Amazon. They’re lightweight, stretch-friendly, and packed with pockets—perfect for working on the cabin or spending time outdoors. The only downside? Just one back pocket.
For around $40–$50, they’re a solid deal. Check them out here: Zoofly Pants on Amazon
